I learned a very important lesson today: Someone may seem like your friend, but their true side will come out when you really need them.

*A true friend is someone whom will walk beside you on your way home from an Anime Club meeting during a severe thunderstorm
*A true friend is someone whom will wait on you to catch up instead of speeding off on their way home during a severe thunderstorm
*A true friend is someone whom will let you ride their bike and they walk on the way home during a severe thunderstorm
*A true friend is someone whom will do the above even though they can't run and they have asthma
*A true friend is someone whom will risk getting struck by lightning to secure your safety

The story behind this lesson:
I had an Anime Club meeting at the local library about a five to ten minute walk from my house. My friend was coming with me because she was spending the night with me, so she walked and I slowly rode my bike. During the meeting, it started to storm. By the time it was over, it had become a severe thunderstorm. My friend and I rushed out of the library: her running and me riding my bike. I rode beside her though to make sure we were together in case one of us was struck, so that the other could get help. About one fourth of the way from my house, I let her ride the bike. I took off my shoes and tried to run the rest of the way, despite not being about to run because of knee problems and asthma. Instead of waiting for me like I did for her, my friend sped off on my bike to my house, leaving me to walk in the rain. Her reason: 'I didn't want to get struck by lightning'. I had risked getting struck to make sure she was okay when I was on the bike, yet she cared more about herself when she was on the bike. I learned that my friend may act like a true friend, but she cares more about herself when I really need her. This is not the first time a friend has taught me this lesson. This is the first time that I really understood it though
